Atoot works with a holistic 3 pillar model –
i) Education
ii) Football (Soccer)
iii) Life-skills workshops
Along with intensive Community Engagement, we aim to bring about empowerment and change in the lives of marginalized girls in rural Nepal.
Atoot conducts football sessions daily for girls aged 5 - 18, five times a week. Atoot football sessions are not focussed solely on football skills, but on a plethora of other soft skills.
At Atoot football sessions, girls become more comfortable with themselves and their bodies - something they have never been taught to do. They connect with their peers in ways they have never done before and form deep and lasting positive relationships. They learn leadership skills, conflict resolution, the importance of teamwork, of time management, of taking responsibility for oneself and one's teammates, of using your voice, among many others.
Atoot conducts daily educational classes in English, Nepali and Math, five days a week for girls aged 5 - 18. Atoot works with girls who are various learning levels. Currently we teach 3 levels: i) Illiterate, ii) Very Poor, iii) Poor.
Atoot's educational classes supplement the girls' current studies at school. Additionally, Atoot classes are specially designed keeping in mind the girls' varied learning levels. Continuous in-class assessments are regularly conducted in order to help Atoot staff contextualise and tailor the lessons to the needs of the girls. Atoot is aware of the power of educating the girl child and knows the far-reaching effects and benefits education can have on a girl's life.
Atoot conducts weekly life-skills workshops with girls between the ages of 5 - 18. Additionally, there are also spontaneous mini-workshop sessions which are conducted as and when the need arises.
Atoot life-skills workshops are based on socially and culturally relevant topics, which emerge from discussions with the girls themselves. They range from more basic things such as daily hygiene and the importance of washing your hands, to more complex topics such as child marriage, menstrual taboos and health, gender and caste discrimination, and many more.
Community engagement is an integral part of Atoot's programming. Atoot conducts regular community visits to interact with our girls' parents, family and other community members. These visits help give us better insights into the girls' day to day lives, and help us better tailor our programme to meet their needs.
Atoot believes that involving the community in the program will lead to holistic and sustainable development which will continue to grow organically, benefitting our girls, as well as generations more!
